World navigation during polarity reversals: Tell me again, who are the grown ups?

Did you know that over the last million years or so, it has been estimated that there have been 3-4 polar geomagnetic reversals. That means that where your compass now points north, it would in a reversal, point south. The process, again it just an estimate, takes a few thousand years and is gradual. That means during the transition magnetic north could be your local Safeways one day, and Bermuda the next. Apparently scaremongers who try to convince us this is an extinction event are exaggerating, because the atmosphere itself absorbs a large part of the solar radiation.

But imagine for a moment if you were a mariner trying to get from A to B using a compass during one of these reversals. You would be going round in circles for months. That's what politics in our part of the world feels like today. Consider:

Less than a month after Teresa May has accused Russia of destabilizing chemical warfare, and chucking out 25 diplomats, she manages to get all her old chums to join her. One of the victims, thought yesterday by some to be beyond saving, is already up and talking, and the number one honcho, our leader of the West, not only expelled 60 diplomats, he managed to slip in an invite to Vladimir Putin to the Whitehouse. (I guess yours got lost in the post, Teresa).

Meanwhile, the Israelis have discovered that their hunting licenses also covers them for shooting unarmed Palestinian protesters. 15 dead last weekend and not so much as an "oops sorry!" At home, poor old Jeremy who was getting pummeled yesterday for not tackling antisemitism in his own party, is now getting it for going to the wrong type of shindig. Apparently there are the right kind and the wrong kind of Jews , and these were the wrong kind. (Who would have thunk it!)

On the other side of the world, a couple of thousand miles away, 'little rocket man', a linchpin in the axis of evil, is on a charm offensive, and is happy to have his own team at the next Olympics, and Xi Jinping is starting to look like a giant in a world of Lilliputians. In America, Trump is now hell bent on destroying even his own team. The new tariffs by China on Pork are due to hit his own fan base harder than anybody else, and God knows what his thinking is with his new attacks on Mexico.

In the UK, the electorate at large it appears, in polls at least, are having a change of mind. Where the estimate was 52% to 48 % leave it now is sort of reversed. What's more it is estimated by 2022 it will be 54-46%. But does this translate into changing one's mind about Brexit? Oh no ... we can't do that! Somewhere deep in those Anglo-Saxon minds is a little troll that says "you can't do that - its just not cricket!"

But seriously people. The world turns, and there are mistakes. Today you threaten a world tariff war, and the stock market drops. Tomorrow you kiss and make up and the stock market shoots up. Then there is Brexit. There are decisions and decisions. It is already patently obvious that the process is not as straight-forward as the Brexiteers would have you believe. The cost, we already know will be considerably higher than first thought, and as for benefits there isn't one that is even reaching let alone exceeding its promise of the referendum.

As difficult as it is to get out of the EU, imagine how difficult it will be trying to get back in, in the future if some future government changes ts mind. Already the UK will have failed the criteria tests because it has disputed borders in Gibraltar and Ireland.

You know what would be the ultimate irony for me. 5 years from now Scotland votes out of the UK. It then applies to the EU and gets in. 10 years from now the UK has a strong change of mind and wants back in. It applies and guess what .... Scotland blocks it!

Since you are here, perhaps you would consider signing the petition to return the final vote on Brexit to the people. We need a lot of votes, so if you agree, help pass the message around. Whatever side of the Brexit fence your on, it can't hurt. We now know that nobody can negotiate a decent Brexit! It is an impossibility ... and so what I am suggesting is to put the question back to the people in the form of a final vote on the Brexit deal. Not a necessarily a referendum, because many believe that is a binary tool (actually they are wrong) and this is a non-binary problem. What I am proposing is a vote. To be held in Early November latest, with a three-way question.

  1. Accept whatever deal is being proposed and leave in an orderly manner

  2. Reject the deal and simply leave, opting for the NO DEAL option

  3. Accepting that any Brexit is too detrimental, therefore choosing cancelling Brexit

Consider what could happen. If the vote shows a 50% majority for anybody then the question is settled. If you believe in British democracy, just take the winner, but if you are a true democrat then opt for a second round, just like the rest of the civilized world. Likely it would not and then, just like the elections in many countries, it goes to a second round, with only the top two options going forward.

If the two options don't include staying in the EU then the choice will simply be between hard or soft Brexit (or whatever is your preferred nomenclature for the options.) Most likely, the result will include staying in the EU and one other. If the other is a hard Brexit, then those who voted 'soft' will be obliged to decide in the second round, either 'stay' in the EU or accept crashing out (a 'hard' Brexit).

If on the other hand it is the hard Brexiteers that lose out on the first round they will either have to accept an orderly 'soft' Brexit or 'stay' in the EU. In this way nobody can say this is undemocratic or that they don't have a chance at a Brexit of their choice. All those who still insist the people have already spoken are doing nothing but risking the entire future of the United Kingdom, from Ireland to Scotland and Gibraltar, from Tory to Labour.

Meet Lord Kerr. He wrote the Article 50, never once thinking it was his own team that would invoke it. Lord Kerr, a former UK ambassador to the E.U, said that Brexiteers in May’s cabinet who were suggesting Brexit was irreversible and thereby misleading the public. This former diplomat says the UK could opt to reverse Brexit up to the moment it leaves, even if a date for the country’s departure from European Union were added to the withdrawal bill, as Theresa May plans.

This is the only way to truly know what the people want and to unite the country again. Everybody, knowing the consequences, takes an informed decision. These are the options, this is the price! - DECIDE -.

Ask yourselves, do you really trust a politician, some of whom take donations from the Russians, to take what is almost certainly the most important decision of your and YOUR CHILDREN'S lives for you? Tell your friends. Tell your family. Tell your fellow students. This sale is only on until March 29th, 2019. (Actually, if a transition period is negotiated it could be longer but I wouldn't risk it). Before Mar 29th 2019, even the EU can't stop a reversal. After that who knows) Vote the way you think and then its in the lap of the gods!
